Our Story
Dentistry runs deep in my family, all the way back to the barber-surgeons in the Northeast wielding combs and forceps. My father spent over 40 years in the profession, starting in the era of Professor Per-Ingvar Brånemark implants, building five dental practices from scratch during the fee-per-item glory days, and working in many more.
I grew up in dental clinics, watching him create teams that stuck together for decades, with the smell of eugenol and dental plaster hanging in the air. He’s still in touch with many of them today—proof that strong human connections are as vital as good instruments in any practice.
A lot has changed since the “wet-finger” days when no one thought twice about wearing gloves. But one thing remains the same: the teamwork and culture needed to deliver outstanding patient care. Over my own six years in the field, I’ve worked in countless practices as an associate or locum. I’ve seen firsthand how toxic dynamics and ill-fitting teams can undermine a practice’s potential. No business can thrive in that kind of environment.
When searching for jobs, I often found myself wading through lifeless listings on job boards and uninspired ads in dental magazines. I noticed that many opportunities seemed to overlook the importance of personality fit. Our profession frequently grapples with mental health challenges, partly because of the isolation that can come from being mismatched within a team.
The only ads that ever caught my eye were on social media, but even those required endless scrolling through posts. The best jobs could slip by if I missed a day, making the search feel exhausting. I witnessed so much potential wasted in these misaligned practices and thought, “What if there were a better way?”
That’s why I created Slickify—a tailored recruitment network for dentistry that puts people and culture first. It’s a space where growth-minded professionals and like-minded practices can connect. On Slickify, creating a profile takes just a few clicks, allowing users to showcase their credentials and personalities. Photos, hobbies, and videos let potential employers see you as more than just another pair of hands.
With Slickify, dental professionals can finally find a true fit, with opportunities filtered and mapped out without the endless scrolling or uninspired ads. This is more than just recruitment; it’s the start of a new era for our field, where finding the right place to work feels as rewarding as the work itself. And while we may be far from the barber-surgeon days, we can still bring some humanity—and a bit of humor—back to the process.
